Scenic Byway
Road to Cisco — Utah
At a Glance
Founded in the 1880’s, Cisco lies about 50 miles east of Green River along I-70, and west of Grand Junction, with Moab (home of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks) about the same distance to the south via one of the most scenic byways in the country, tracing the Colorado River admist red rock cathedrals.
Cisco Plat
Havilah recently acquired most of the historic Cisco Townsite subdivision, which was approved by the Grand County Board of Commissioners on July 11, 1910. Although Cisco was once home to as many as 850 families, its population has dwindled to near zero in recent years. Along with those willing to undertake a 21st century version of homesteading, we hope to breath new life into this once bustling town.
Signs of New Life
As a ghost town, Cisco has been featured in several films, including Vanishing Point, Thelma & Louise, and Cisco Kid. In recent years, an Art Residency program has produced a number of intriguing murals and sculptures on dilapidated structures and derelict vehicles. Beyond that, a newly renovated General Store is now operating 9 months out of the year.
Endless Options for Outdoor Recreation
A short jaunt to the Colorado River, Cisco is a favorite staging area for anglers, hunters, hikers, bikers and kayakers.
National Parks and Monuments lie to the Southwest and Northeast.
